If you have eye strain, you need to ensure you rest your eyes for a while in order to relieve the symptoms. Making a conscious effort to blink is another way in which you can help to replenish the tear film and closing your eyes for around twenty seconds every half an hour or so will help to reduce the strain on the eyes.
In order to defeat and prevent getting Computer Vision Syndrome you should try to take a break from the computer and screen on a regular basis. It is advisable to actually get up from the computer and move away from it, as if you remain at your monitor or desk the chances are that you will still end up looking at the screen even if you take a break from your work.
Making sure you have adequate lighting that is properly positioned is also important if you spend a lot of time on the computer. You should be able to see clearly as a result of the lighting but it should not be in a position where it results in glare or reflects off the screen.
Another thing that is recommended is regular visits to have your eyes tested. It is very important to bear in mind that prolonged and regular computer use can have an effect on your eyes, and by getting them tested you will be able to determine whether you need to be wearing glasses or contacts. If so, it is important to ensure that you wear these at all times when you are using the computer otherwise you could end up causing yourself even bigger problems by placing increased strain on the eyes. It is also worth looking at investing in an anti-glare screen for your monitor, which can help to reduce strain.
